Since 1960, P&R Technologies, Inc. has been dedicated to one mission: Making Life Visibly Safer. As a third-generation, family-owned and operated American company, we are proud of our long history of innovation, quality, and service to the power utility industry. Many of our products are made in the USA, continuing a tradition of American craftsmanship that has been at the heart of P&R Tech for more than six decades.

In 1960, P&R Technologies introduced SpanGuard/Helimark, recognized as some of the world’s leading power line markers. Utilities have relied on SpanGuard markers for decades to make transmission and distribution lines more visible to pilots, helping save lives and protect valuable equipment. Hundreds of utilities have adopted our markers, and many of the original units remain in service today—a testament to their exceptional durability and lasting quality.

Through the years, we have continued to improve, innovate, and diversify our marker designs.

Some of our most significant milestones include:

  • In the 1960s, we developed a method of installing markers on power lines that provides long-lasting, secure attachment without damaging the conductor.
  • In the 1970s, we introduced our EHV (Extra High Voltage) markers, featuring a specialized coating and other design enhancements that protect against line corona, which can burn or melt conventional plastic markers.
  • In the 1980s, we began manufacturing molded markers using advanced plastic materials, providing more brilliant colors, improved visibility, and even longer service life.
  • In the 1990s, we introduced aluminum markers designed for high-temperature, high-voltage ACSS conductors.
  • In the 2000s, we introduced self-illuminated aluminum markers capable of providing 24/7 FAA lighting for catenary lines and similar applications.

Along the way, P&R Tech expanded its product line to include bird diverters, including the renowned FireFly®, designed to help large and migratory birds detect power lines in their flight paths—particularly during low-light conditions at dawn and dusk.

Today, P&R Technologies also offers industry-standard FAA tower lighting, solar-powered obstruction lights, and clip-on flags and markers for low lines, helping crane operators and operators of tall equipment identify and avoid overhead hazards.

Now in our third generation of family ownership and operation, P&R Technologies remains committed to the values that have guided us since 1960: innovation, dependable quality, personal service, and American manufacturing. We are especially proud that many of our products are made right here in the USA.
